Saddam Hussein's statue at Firdos Square in central Baghdad was pulled down by US troops and truimphant Iraqis. However, there was a big contrast of atmosphere when thousands of Iraqis crowded at the Square to
protest the occupation of American troops.
"Tens of thousands of Iraqis marked the second anniversary of the fall of Saddam Hussein by marching in the capital Saturday to demand the withdrawal of U.S. forces. "
One of the main chants of protesters in yesterday morning was "No America, no Saddam! Yes to Islam!". It is very obvious that Iraqi citizens are unsatisfied with the prolonged stay of American troops in their country. According to a university student who took part in the demonstration, Iraq is capable of protecting its security and peace. Hence it is time for the occupiers (Americans) to leave.
In my opinion, America should retreat their troops immediately, or at least gradually to enable the new Iraqi government to have more idependence in governing Iraq. On the other hand, this action will also boost the confidence of Iraqis given to their
democatric-elected government.
"The National Assembly broke new ground by electing Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, the first non-Arab president of a predominantly Arab country. Talabani and two vice presidents, Sheik Ghazi al-Yawar (Sunni president of the interim government) and Abdel Abdul Mahdi, a leading Shiite politician, were sworn in Thursday. Talabani named Ibrahim al-Jaafari, a religious Shiite, prime minister, the key position in the new government."
I believe if given time, the new president,

Jalal Talabani%3
